South Dakota Credit Reports
All South Dakotans can now receive free copies of their credit reports once a year from each of the three national credit reporting agencies. A recent amendment to the federal Fair Credit Reporting Act, called the Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act, established the free credit report program. The program requires the three national credit reporting companies, Equifax, Experian and TransUnion, to provide consumers, upon request, with a free copy of their credit report every 12 months.
"Credit is a very important financial tool and this new law has made it easier to keep it safe," said the Attorney General when announcing this. He went on to say "The ability to monitor your credit history for free is a huge step in protecting your identity and preventing fraud before it happens."
The free reports are available only through the central site set up by the three major reporting agencies. To obtain the free reports, consumers can Call 1-877-322-8228
