Delaware Insurance
The Delaware Insurance Department assists consumers with the filing of complaints about such insurance poblems as:
- Improper cancellation or termination of an insurance policy.
- Misrepresentation by an agent or broker.
- Illegal cancellation or termination of an insurance policy.
- Theft of premiums paid to an agent or broker.
- Problems concerning insurance premiums or rates.
To file a complaint, submit "Request for Assistance" that contains your name, complete address and daytime phone number, the full name of the insurance company/ the name and address of the agent or broker if appropriate, and a short description of the problem.
You should also include any documents (preferable copies) related to your problem such as the declaration page of your policy or certificate, canceled checks, letters or correspondence. If you cannot get copies of documents made, and you need to send original documents, it is suggested that you send them certified mail. All original documents will be returned to you as soon as possible. The more complete the information sent in, the quicker the Delaware Insurance Department can identify the issues and begin their review.
Consumer Services Investigators will contact you shortly after your inquiry is received - usually within 48 hours. The time it takes to investigate and resolve a complaint can vary greatly, depending on the complexity of the matter.
